The Catacombs

The Catacombs of Paris or Catacombes de Paris is the underground ossuary in Paris, France. Located at the south gate of the former city, ossuary holding the remains of about 6 million people and fill the renovated section of the caves and tunnels that are remnants of a stone quarry Paris.

Sure makes the atmosphere more scary. Most of the bones and the skull is derived from the Roman era, but there also comes from the citizens of Paris in the 19th century. Most of those who died in this place death is not natural. Most appropriate to visit this region is alone, without taking part in the group. Of course the effect will be more sinister.

Opened in the late 18th century, the underground burial into a tourist attraction on a small scale from the early 19th century, and has been open to the public on a regular basis from 1867. Following incidents of vandalism, they are closed to the public in September 2009 and reopened December 19 that same year.
